Hello class!
As you know by now, we have started on our first unit. This unit will take a detailed look into the geography of North Carolina. We will learn about the Mountains, Piedmont, and the Coastal Plain. We will look at major bodies of water and what their significance was in North Carolina History. We will discuss the Native American tribes that first occupied these areas, and we will then look at early European settlement. We will also study the agriculture of each of these areas.
I thought I would share a couple of interesting maps with you, as well as a couple of great educational links. While I encourage that you check these websites out, I urge that you stay only on these specific sites and do not follow any other links. Remember, when using the internet for research, safety is always the most important factor.

Hi Class,
It looks like we are off to a great state this year! Now that the first week of school is over, it is time to buckle down and start really learning about this beautiful state. I know that it may seem like there is a lot of homework in this class, and it would be easy to forget something I have assigned you. To help you out I have created a monthly schedule tap on the right hand side of this page. You will see the homework schedule for September is already listed!
On the first day of each month I will post the new homework schedule. My hope is that this will help you stay on top of all of the assignments that you will have due for this class.
I will still remind you each day in class of what the assignments are, but this will help in case you misplace your agenda or forget to write something down.
However, because your nightly homework is listed here I will not accept any late assignments unless we have already talked about it!
Enjoy the rest of your week!
Welcome to Mrs. Zumwalt's 8th Grade History class! This year we will be learning all about the beautiful state we live in, North Carolina! From the Civil War to the Wright Brother's first flight, we are going to be learning about a number of different adventures together in class.
We will be covering a lot of information this year, and class time will move very quickly. I know that there will be a lot to learn and remember, so I created this blog to help. I will post all of my lessons to this blog, after class, so that students have the opportunity to review all of the information whenever they need. I will also use this website to remind you of upcoming homework assignments and test.
Please take some time to look around the blog and make sure that you understand how everything works. If you have an questions, please write them down, we will take the first 10 minutes of Friday Morning (Aug 10) to answer them. I want to make sure that every student feels comfortable using this blog, because it will be a great way to help you all succeed this year!
